ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide instructional and Special Education leadership in collaboration with the school’s principal and ILT for the development and continuous improvement of the Special Education program at the school. Guide the school community to ensure all stakeholders understand requirements of the special education including, but not limited to IEP compliance, accommodations, modifications, BIPs, graduation and post‑secondary options. Advocate for increased student access and success.

Support the MPS Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plan with specific emphasis on equity, curriculum and instruction transformation (CTP), MTSS and professional development of staff aligned to these focus areas.

  • Beginning of the year activities (schedule checks, class list checks) SEA onboarding, new SPED Teacher onboarding
  • SEA schedule, overview, coaching and trainings
  • Admin designee at IEP meetings as needed
  • Monthly Due Process spreadsheet with Due Process clerk
  • Maintain Resource Eval Spreadsheet
  • Read and process SPED communications from central office
  • Problem solve due process issues with FBA/BIP
  • Registration and withdraw data - management of student numbers
  • Gr. 9 transfer/transition (into Camden) & T+ process and meetings
  • Manage/Update Goal Banks
  • Standards Based Grading and Assessment
  • Audit grades for honor role and at end of year
  • SEPP Process
  • SPED teacher and coteacher development with EL Lead/Coach
  • Weekly meetings with Principal
  • Department Management/Attend meetings
  • Scheduling and Course Registration for SPED
  • Support ILT (Instructional Leadership Team)
  • Support the MTSS process at sites to provide quality core instruction
  • Provide follow‑up coaching with teachers to work towards goals related to SOEI observations, site and professional goals,
    • Classroom management
    • Instructional strategies
    • Formative assessment
    • Selecting and using curricular materials
    • Classroom climate
    • Organizing content for meaningful learning

    • Co‑teaching and collaboration
  • Collaborate with site administrators and the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to:
    • Develop and facilitate professional development for individual teachers through coaching cycles
    • Help teachers align their professional needs with appropriate staff development
    • Coordinate the implementation of our schools Onboarding Process for educators new to education and new to our school community.
    • Communicate and collaborate with district and school personnel
    • Attend district IS Team meetings and IS professional development as approved by site principal and appropriate for site
    • Attend any Secondary Observer training focusing on inter‑rater reliability, SOEI related topics (some of this is field‑based work)
  • Support Administrative team and PLC Champions in planning and implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  • Support Administrative team and PD Leads in planning and implementing building wide Professional Development
  • Support and serve on the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)
  • Support continued implementation of common assessments
  • Participate in the feedback cycle throughout the school year. This includes feedback from Instructional Specialist Lead, Instructional Specialist Leadership Team, teacher survey, principal survey and evidence‑based observations
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in the area of Special Education
  • Tenured in Minneapolis Public Schools in 2021 or earlier
  • Successful completion of the Standards of Effective Instruction (SOEI) observer certification (must be completed upon hire)
