About the Job
Teach hands‑on plant science programming that may include Arboretum field trips, in‑classroom outreach experiences, and summer day camps.
Responsibilities- Deliver high‑quality programs that connect children to plants and the natural world.
- Communicate positively and professionally with parents, teachers, volunteers, and other adults.
- Prepare, set up, and manage program supplies; restock materials for the next instructor.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Delegate tasks and provide guidance to volunteers.
- Provide feedback to support continuous program improvement.
- Serve in a mix of lead teaching and assistant roles, depending on program needs.
- Commitment:
On call / as needed. - Hours:
Flexible; schedule varies seasonally and week to week.
This position is located at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, MN.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, horticulture, natural sciences or a related field.
- Experience teaching in a classroom or informal education setting.
- Ability to teach with energy, clarity, and flexibility.
- Enthusiasm for working with children, including patience and a sense of humor.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to walk, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds; work both indoors and outdoors.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Willingness to play games, use puppets, and get messy.
Pay Range: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
