Position: Lecturer (Kakalios)

About the Job

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota is looking for full-time lecturers to teach physics and/or astronomy courses primarily at the introductory level. A full (or 100%) time position would consist of being the primary instructor for two courses (each counting 40%) each term and providing auxiliary services (20%), e.g., carrying out laboratory development, for the School's teaching mission.

Variations to this, e.g., teaching only a single course at a part-time level, will also be considered.

As the primary instructor for a course, duties would include: lecturing; preparing lectures, exams, discussion and homework sets; administration of the class (through Canvas) and communication with students; working with other instructors for courses with multiple lecture sections; and managing teaching assistants.

Qualifications

Required:

Lecturer positions require a Ph.D. degree in physics or astrophysics and applicable training and/or experience related to the assigned job responsibilities. The person in this position must have the ability to teach introductory physics or astronomy courses at the undergraduate level, work well with administrative staff and faculty, and be able to run courses independently.

Preferred:
University level teaching experience with introductory physics, astronomy, or related courses will be viewed favorably.

Pay and Benefits
  • Pay Range: $59,000 - $65,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
  • Time Appointment: 100%-time, 9-month appointment
