Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Athletics Communication (DAC), this graduate assistant assists with the marketing and promotion of the College’s 26 intercollegiate NCAA Division III sports programs. Responsibilities include keeping official statistics, managing a livestream, authoring press releases, maintaining program record books, and assisting in overseeing the athletic website.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for a select number of sports while gaining experience with all 26 programs throughout the two years.
Leadership and RepresentationThe role places the candidate in a position of leadership as a public representative of the College, aligning with the educational goals of the student’s degree program.
You will interact with a diverse community of student-athletes, faculty and staff, members of the media, visitors to campus, and representatives of other institutions.
Group Collaboration and Critical ThinkingYou will work within groups, lead groups, and think critically to solve challenges that arise as we host athletic events on campus in real time.
Program-Specific ExperienceStudents in the Organizational Leadership program build skills in people management, group communication, and group leadership. Students in the Professional and Creative Writing program gain extensive writing experience for internal and external stakeholders. Students in the Sports Leadership program gain experience in all areas of collegiate athletics and maintain working relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff. Students in the MBA program apply problem‑solving and management techniques taught within the MBA program to marketing and promotion of Cardinal athletics on social media, the College’s athletic website, and other channels.
QualificationsAccepted into a graduate program at North Central College.
Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills required.
Demonstrated problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
Intermediate skills using MS Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Previous experience as a student assistant in a collegiate sports information/athletic communication environment, writing for publication, and/or independent supervision of peers is a plus.
Work Hours20 hours per week during the academic year, excluding academic breaks.
