Para educator – Special Education
Full‑Time: 184 days / 6.5 hrs/day
Duty Overview- Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center‑based settings. Duties vary by age or level of disability.
- Managing behavior (redirecting, calming, or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
- Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
- Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.
- Completed 60 semester / 90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or have passed the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam (documentation required).
- Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, supervise students, take direction, and maintain regular attendance.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform position responsibilities that include physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions, and people functions (e.g., toileting, feeding, self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management programs, maintaining student data, working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior).
- Must be physically present in the building.
$20.00/hour to $25.30/hour DOQ with K‑12 experience
$21.15/hour to $26.45/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 Best/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience
$22.00/hour to $27.30/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience
Special Ed Paras serving Center‑based students or classrooms 50 % or more of their time receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program or River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.00 per hour.
