Under general supervision, provide a variety of services to assist students with special needs in a learning environment; assist MPS staff to develop and implement appropriate individualized lessons and activities for students with disabilities; help students meet their therapy and education goals.
Essential FunctionsWork in programs serving students with autism, mental impairments, physical impairments, other health impairments, behavioral disorders, deaf/hard of hearing, visual impairments, and Early Childhood Special Education programs.
Establish positive relationships with students and act as a role model for appropriate social skills and behavior in all situations. Assist staff in managing student behavior by applying proactive strategies. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Education or closely related area; or completed 90 quarter/60 semester credits from an accredited institution; or a passing score of 460 (or higher) on the Para Pro Assessment plus a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience working with children.
First Aid/CPR/AED, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, and Special Education Orientation required within one year.
Physical Demands & Working EnvironmentMay require walking or standing for significant periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, working with special‑needs children. Eligibility based on passing the required pre‑placement exam.
