Responsibilities
  • Deliver course content, with ability to clearly articulate in various modes: classroom, remote, hybrid, or fully online, depending on class. Be aware of and promote program and course outcomes.
  • Hold weekly office hours that are responsive to student schedules.
  • Evaluate and grade student work (labs, assignments, exams).
  • Participate in regular meetings: twice‑yearly faculty meetings, professional development workshops.
  • Understand and apply University of Minnesota policies to student‑ and course‑related issues, with support from program staff and University resources.
  • Participate in continuing education in specific field of knowledge to ensure delivery of leading‑edge content to prepare students for professional work in industry.
  • Carry out self‑evaluation each semester leading to continuous improvement.
  • Reflect upon and evaluate course material each semester to identify needs for revision to content areas or assignments. Make minor changes; document more extensive needs for review by the faculty director.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in DEI in professional settings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field closely related to information technology infrastructure.
  • Ten or more years of professional experience in a field directly related to information technology infrastructure.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in a field closely related to information technology infrastructure. Teaching experience in higher education.

Desired

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in a field closely related to information technology infrastructure or in adult higher education.
  • Teaching experience in higher education that includes online courses.
  • A demonstrated understanding of pedagogy that blends theoretical concepts and professional applications.
About The Department

This faculty position is responsible for University of Minnesota INET course instruction as employed by Undergraduate Applied and Professional Studies (uAPS) in the College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS) in the Information Technology Infrastructure (ITI) degree program. The posting is intended to collect applications for one or more of the INET courses as needed for any particular semester. These INET courses comprise C programming;

web infrastructure; social impact of IT; operating systems; systems storage, analysis, and design; operations; projects and processes; security policy and regulation; databases; data management; data science, including big data analytics; dev ops, including network programming and development strategies; security; and network administration. INET Teaching Specialists report to the faculty director of the ITI program and are typically employed on a semester‑by‑semester basis to teach at least twice in an academic year. Please visit the University catalog to view the variety of INET course offerings to enable matching of content and instructor background: UMNTC Course 2020‑22.

Most courses are delivered as weekly evening classroom classes or a blend of synchronous classroom and asynchronous online modules. A few are entirely asynchronous online and can therefore be taught remotely.

Pay And Benefits

Pay Range: The salary for all new instructors (Teaching Specialists) is $2,437 per credit.
