Healthcare Consultant, Medical Doctor
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks a full-time clinical microbiologist to join a team of faculty in the clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory. Academic rank, compensation, and appointment type will be based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must have demonstrated ability in teaching and scholarly productivity. Minimum requirements are an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree.
Clinical pathology residency training or clinical microbiology post-doctoral training is required. Applicants should be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology (preferably with sub-specialty qualification in Medical Microbiology) or by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Physician applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in Minnesota.
The clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory provides all diagnostic testing for the M Health Fairview system, a large network of hospitals and clinics throughout the Twin Cities and outstate Minnesota. The laboratory menu includes conventional microbiology, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, bacterial and viral PCR and array assays, and viral load and serologic infectious disease assays. The technical staff comprises supervisors, specialists, technologists, and laboratory scientists.
Candidates will participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education, and are encouraged to pursue a research program leading to national and international recognition. Clinical responsibilities, on-call duties, and conferences will be shared with other microbiology faculty.
Academic time will be allocated for scholarly work in the candidate's area of expertise. Preferred candidates will be active in national organizations and foster an academic environment for trainees and faculty.

Pay and Benefits:
This role is jointly employed by the University of Minnesota Physicians and the university. Salary is competitive and based on AAMC benchmarks. Clinical salary is provided through M Physicians, with additional academic salary based on effort.
