The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine (UMN-CVM) is recruiting a Radiation Oncologist to join our expanding Oncology team. The successful candidate will join 2 medical oncologists and 3 medical oncology house officers. The service is supported by 4 medical oncology technicians and 2 radiation oncology technicians, as well as a veterinary technician assistant. The clinical Oncology team strives to advance clinical care, research and teaching in a team based, collaborative academic environment.
PositionThe UMN offers an outstanding opportunity for a tenure track or clinical (non tenure) track full time (100 percent appointment) faculty position in Radiation Oncology at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical radiation oncology services for companion animals.
- Provide clinical instruction to house officers and students and contribute to comparative research. The percentage of time allocated for clinical service, teaching, and research is negotiable based on goals and experience.
- Collaborate with the radiation oncology team and other departments to advance the college missions: service, teaching and research.
- Participate in contouring and treatment planning rounds, journal clubs and research seminars; engage with physician researchers, graduate students and house officers.
- Utilize equipment and software for planning and delivery and participate in on site QA with medical physicists.
- Access to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center, a comprehensive specialty hospital with specialists and advanced planning and delivery capabilities. The selected candidate will work closely with radiation oncologists, therapists and medical physicists, with on site QA and planning rounds.
- Opportunity to attend contouring and planning rounds, journal clubs and research seminars in the Department of Radiation Oncology for direct engagement with an active group of physician researchers and trainees.
The successful applicant will have opportunities to join the Animal Cancer Care and Research (ACCR) Program and engage in independent and collaborative research advancing basic and translational Comparative Radiation Oncology. Areas include immunotherapy for solid tumors, quantitative imaging, radio biology, and model development for radiation studies. There are opportunities for cross campus collaboration with the Department of Radiation Oncology, Masonic Cancer Center and Translational Working Groups.
Funding opportunities include CVM grants, Masonic Cancer Center initiatives, CTSI K and R Scholar Development Grants, MnDRIVE and more. The University is a member of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium and the Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC).
Faculty are expected to participate in teaching and mentoring DVM students, graduate students and house officers. Support for teaching is provided by the CVM Academic and Student Affairs Office and the Center for Educational Innovation, including SoTL opportunities and leadership development programs.
Qualifications- The successful candidate must have a DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree and have achieved ACVR Radiation Oncology board certification or completed an approved ACVR residency program.
- Candidates must be eligible for Minnesota state veterinary licensure.
