This is a pivotal, full-time academic position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor ( Academic or Clinician track, depending on qualifications), offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of pediatric cardiac care, research, and education in the Upper Midwest.

The Division Director will lead a robust clinical, research, and educational enterprise in partnership with our primary clinical affiliate, M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital, specifically within the nationally recognized Pediatric Heart Center. Position Highlights:

  • Responsibilities will include up to 80% clinical care for children with a wide range of cardiovascular disorders as well as adults with congenital heart disease. Additional responsibilities will include leadership of the Division; engaging in productive interdisciplinary and inter-institutional clinical and/or research activities; and teaching medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Co-Director of the Pediatric Heart Center. Our Heart Center utilizes a comprehensive team of CV intensivists, care coordinators, cardiologists, and surgeons—all within a true children's hospital setting, on a leading academic campus.
  • In both inpatient and outpatient settings, the candidate will work closely and collaboratively with all relevant sections and teams who are involved in the comprehensive medical and surgical care of children and adults with congenital heart diseases.
  • Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate's area of specialty/research experience with a goal of developing collaborative or independent, externally funded research, as applicable to academic track.
  • Will work to build partnerships between pediatric and adult medicine to provide care across the lifespan for individuals with cardiovascular disorders.
  • Will join a group of 19 faculty in our Pediatric Cardiology Division.
  • Will lead collaborations with a large Maternal-Fetal Medicine program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to coordinate multidisciplinary prenatal and neonatal care for infants with congenital heart disease.
  • Provide care for a large patient population from across the State of Minnesota and region that includes many with highly acute disorders.
  • Engage with UMN Foundation to support philanthropy efforts and provide oversight of prior donations.
Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or equivalent terminal degree. Graduate of ACGME-accredited Pediatric or Internal-Medicine Pediatrics residency program and ACGME-accredited Pediatric Cardiology fellowship program.
  • Board Certified in Pediatric Cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
  • Eligible for medical licensure and DEA certificate in the State of Minnesota and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship clinical experience in pediatric cardiology and documented leadership experience in an academic medical center setting (e.g., Program Director, Medical Director, Section Chief, Associate Director).
  • Scholarly Activity: A strong record of scholarly productivity, peer-reviewed publications, and a demonstrated commitment to academic medicine, commensurate with appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strategic Leadership:
Demonstrated success in program building and leading, creating and executing strategic plans to achieve established goals for a group of physicians and scientists.
  • Research Advocacy:
Demonstrated success in leading and/or supporting medical research with the ability to effectively identify the implications of research findings and recommend specific medical or strategic actions.
  • Operational Proficiency:
Proven ability to navigate complex hospital and clinic operations; specifically, the ability to partner with hospital administration to optimize clinical throughput, patient safety, and resource management within a heart center environment.
  • Management Principles:
Demonstrated ability to identify market opportunities and operational concerns, applying effective management principles to achieve fiscal and clinical success.
  • Relational Excellence:
Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines, including cardiac surgery, intensive care, and anesthesia.
