Manufacturing Engineer
General Description: The Tooling Manager oversees all Tool Room operations, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality tooling output, and strong alignment with organizational objectives. This role provides technical leadership, manages personnel, drives continuous improvement, and supports both internal and external customers with tooling expertise.
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
· Operation Leadership
o Direct and manage daily Tool Room operations, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are met.
o Oversee job scheduling and maintain accurate, timely entries in the scheduling system.
o Monitor mold repair activities and ensure timely completion of work.
o Provide working drawings and technical documentation as required.
· People Management
o Lead, mentor, and develop Tool Room staff to enhance skills, performance, and team effectiveness.
o Conduct performance reviews and ensure supervisory documentation is consistent and timely.
o Ensure team members have the tools, resources, and training necessary to perform their work safely and effectively.
· Technical & Customer Support
o Provide technical support to internal teams and external customers.
o Review new mold designs and support quality assurance for new tooling.
· Continuous Improvement & Documentation
o Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Tool Room.
o Develop departmental goals and implement effective documentation methods.
o Author or review Standard Operating Procedures, training materials, and process documentation.
· Business & Sales Support
o Prepare tooling quotations for potential customers.
o Provide updates to the Steering Committee during monthly meetings.
o Conduct local sales visits and occasional out-of-state travel as needed.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
· Minor machine maintenance
· Occasional out-of-state travel
Prerequisite Qualifications:
· Thorough knowledge of machine shop equipment, tooling processes, and machining procedures.
· Minimum of three years of relevant experience in tooling, mold making, or precision machining.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
· Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
· Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (preferred).
· CAD proficiency and familiarity with mold design principles (preferred).
