Senior Architect

Location: Bloomington or Duluth, Minnesota (primarily onsite)

Employment Type: 12-month contract to hire

Travel: Approximately 10–20%

Position Overview

A leading engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Senior Architect to support and lead architectural delivery for complex industrial and food & beverage facility projects. This role focuses on technical leadership, project execution, and client engagement, working closely with project managers and engineering teams throughout all phases of design and construction.

The ideal candidate brings experience from a consulting or A/E firm environment, demonstrates strong architectural judgment, and is comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams while supporting client relationships and project pursuits.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and execution for industrial, manufacturing, and food & beverage facility projects across all project phases
• Partner with Project Managers to define scope of services, schedules, staffing plans, and labor estimates
• Support proposal development, project pursuits, and client presentations
• Serve as a primary architectural point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders
• Provide technical leadership, design direction, and QA/QC review of architectural deliverables
• Coordinate closely with engineering disciplines to support integrated project delivery
• Support construction activities including design interpretation, field coordination, and issue resolution
• Mentor and guide junior architects and designers
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal design practices
• Participate in site visits and client meetings as required

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
• Registered Architect (RA) required
• 10–15+ years of progressive architectural experience
• Experience in a consulting / architecture-engineering firm environment
• Background supporting industrial, manufacturing, or food & beverage facilities
• Strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and construction practices
• Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate multidisciplinary efforts
• Strong client-facing, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work primarily onsite with limited remote flexibility

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Architecture
• Experience with design-build or fast-track project delivery
• Exposure to life sciences, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial facilities
• Experience supporting proposals, fee development, and project financial performance
• Revit experience is beneficial; however, this role emphasizes architectural leadership and design oversight rather than daily production drafting
