Overview
Project Success is looking for a contract Choreographer for our annual musical at Andersen United Middle School. The production this year is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. This is an independent contractor position.
Project Success is a nonprofit youth development organization that helps students connect to their purpose. We work with more than 17,000 6th-12th grade students and their families annually and have more than 225,000 alumni around the world. Learn more .
Project Success produces musicals at three Minneapolis Public middle schools, and each show has between 50 – 90 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of theatrical experiences. For many, the Project Success musical at their school is their first opportunity to be in a show! We utilize the power of theater to inspire, build community, act as a springboard for discussion, and encourage students to tell their own stories.
CoreResponsibilities
- Choreography:
- Assist with running auditions and casting the show
- Create original dances/blocking for the show’s musical numbers
- Teach all choreographed numbers to the cast
- Foster students’ talents and confidence
- Create an inclusive and accessible environment at rehearsal
- Communication:
- Work in close collaboration with the Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Technical Director, and Senior Program Manager – Musicals
- Build and nurture trusting relationships with young people
- Interact with school partners and families
- This position reports to the Senior Program Manager – Musicals
- Rehearsals after school, Monday through Thursday, from 3:20 pm - 5:45 pm (3 days a week for a total of 10 hours)
- Four tech rehearsals from 3:20 pm-6:45 pm
- Two performance dates including two school matinees and two evening performances
- Additional time commitment of 1-3 hours per week to plan actor blocking, create actor choreography and attend a production meeting the week before auditions. More details regarding scheduling are to be discussed during the interview process.

Tuesday, March 24 & Wednesday, March 25 - Rehearsals:
Monday, April 6 – Thursday, May 28 + adding one Friday rehearsal on Friday, May 29 - Tech Rehearsals:
Monday, June 1 – Thursday, June 4 - Performances:
Friday, June 5 & Saturday, June 6
- Independent contractor position
- $2,500 stipend
- Must be able to pass a background check
