Position: Category Manager I - Metals

Overview

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Category Manager I – Metals responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sourcing strategies for structural and miscellaneous metals. This role will focus on optimizing costs, quality, and delivery while improving Supply Chain efficiencies and maintaining supplier relationships. Industrializing standard products for use in typical structures.

Responsibilities
  • Manage Design Phase, Estimating, and Procurement for Key Projects – Interpret project plans, solicit quotes, qualify manufacturer quotes, assist material selections, create proposals, coordinate project teams.
  • Develop and implement Category Strategy for Assigned Categories – Engage internal stakeholders, assess opportunities, develop sourcing strategy, support annual category reviews, manage supplier relationships, lead category financial reviews, achieve material cost reductions, negotiate contracts, forecast commodity inflation, build relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent.
  • 8+ years strategically managing category material spend, specific to structural & miscellaneous metals.
  • Experience negotiating contracts and procuring commercial mechanical equipment direct from manufacturers.
  • Experience influencing early design phases and front-loading decision making.
  • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and negotiation skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organization, planning and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including openness to diverse input.
  • Knowledge of construction processes and materials.
  • Experience presenting in front of Senior Leadership.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
