This is a hybrid role requiring a location of Minneapolis, MN.
Position OverviewAs a Senior Sales Director on the CPG by MPG team, you are the strategic driver and commercial leader behind our most critical client partnerships and growth efforts. You’ll own senior relationships, shape long-range account strategies, and unlock new revenue by connecting brand strategy with retail execution that delivers measurable business results.
Responsibilities- Own and grow strategic client partnerships—set account vision, define success metrics, and drive profitable business results.
- Lead commercial strategy and new revenue generation (expansions, upsells, renewals, and new logos in partnership with leadership).
- Develop multi-year growth roadmaps and annual joint business plans that align client goals with CPG by MPG capabilities.
- Translate data into executive-level insights—identify growth opportunities, shape recommendations, and influence client decisions.
- Direct cross-functional delivery with analytics, creative, and account teams to ensure excellence in retail execution and client experience.
- Lead and develop talent—coach Sales Directors/Account Managers, strengthen team performance, and set a high bar for quality and accountability.
- Build senior-level trust and influence with clients, retail partners, and internal stakeholders to fuel long-term success.
- Anticipate risk and remove obstacles—proactively solve problems, negotiate trade-offs, and keep business moving forward with confidence.
- Represent CPG by MPG externally—contribute to thought leadership, client events, and industry relationships that support growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8–12+ years of progressive experience in sales, account leadership, or client services—ideally within CPG, retail, or agency environments.
- Demonstrated success leading and growing large/complex accounts and consistently delivering revenue and retention outcomes.
- Strong understanding of retail dynamics, category management, and omnichannel commerce; ability to connect strategy to shelf + digital execution.
- Proven ability to communicate and present at the executive level—influencing internal and external audiences through clarity and conviction.
- Experience working with Target or other major retailers strongly preferred.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
- Prior people leadership experience managing and developing account/sales teams.
- Track record of building scalable client processes (planning cadences, playbooks, forecasting, reporting).
- Familiarity with sales analytics tools, syndicated data, and retail media platforms.
- Experience partnering across creative, analytics, and merchandising/category teams to deliver integrated work.
- Experience contributing to business development strategy, proposals, pricing, and/or contract negotiations.
