Position Description

The Community Relations Specialist will work with the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) Director to support outreach objectives and provide staff support to the Community Engagement needs of the OIRA Office within the NCR Department.

Work Location

This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison for the City and the Department to develop and implement communication strategies to educate and inform the public and other stakeholders about the goals, policies and programs concerning OIRA and NCR community engagement activities, support connections to resources, and/or assist in resolving specific issues.
  • Produce newsletters, public announcements, and other documents, using appropriate computer applications.
  • Identify desired outreach materials and draft/create documents accessible in multiple formats and languages based upon information on intended audiences.
  • Assist with administrative details including scheduling meetings, coordinating communications, and responding to requests.
  • Provide assistance to the OIRA Director and the NCR Department management team, including scheduling meetings, coordinating communications, responding to requests.
  • Assist with the drafting and production of correspondence, and other important documents for internal and external audiences, and forms for City Council processes, publications, newsletters, and other important documents.
  • Maintain program and database information.
  • Provide coordination of staffing, supplies and all associated communication for community fairs, festivals, events, and other venues.
  • Work with the OIRA Director and the Department Director in providing staff support for Community Engagement, task forces and/or other department or community advisory groups; preparing and delivering presentations as needed.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Urban Studies, Public Administration, Political Science, International Relations, Communications, Migration Studies or related fields.

Minimum Experience

One year of experience performing similar duties with neighborhood groups, nonprofit organizations or in the public sector.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered.

The selection process will consist of a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess.
