Position: CAAS - Assistant Controller (Construction Industry) | Minneapolis, MN

CLA is looking for an Assistant Controller with Construction industry experience to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice based out of our Minneapolis, MN office. As a member of CLA's CAAS practice, you will be an integral part of the client service team and will work directly 1:1 with clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.

You will work independently at client locations and report to the Principal in charge of the client relationship. You will supervise the accounting team on each engagement, which may include CLA staff and client staff, and you will deliver timely and accurate financial statements and statistical information to the client’s leadership team while implementing financial and operational best practices for the client’s industry.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client's accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
  • Act as a consultant and advisor to clients on accounting and finance-related engagements.
  • Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
  • Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
  • Foster and build opportunities for clients, communities, and people.
  • Become an industry professional and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
  • Maintain knowledge of the client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience:

    4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Relevant work experience within the construction industry is highly preferred.
  • Aptitude for developing and maintaining knowledge of accounting software and systems;
    Quick Books experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and related software.
  • Travel:
    This position requires working primarily in-office at our downtown Minneapolis location with frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings, and/or other business purposes.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive bases of accounting.
  • Strong organizational skills, goal orientation, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and clear, concise communication.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and value diverse contributions.
  • Proven success in managing work and client relationships to exceed expectations.
