Child Welfare Program

The goal of Catholic Charities' Child Welfare Program is to increase healthy birth outcomes among at‑risk, low‑income families by helping individuals develop tools for good decision making. Supporting expectant parents as they carefully explore all their options and make a thoughtful and appropriate plan for their baby, whether it is an adoption plan or a parenting plan. Program staff are committed to being the support system through the mother and child's journey but are also inclusive of providing that support to the father's journey whose engagement directly affects healthy birth outcomes.

Additionally, program staff can continue to serve in their support role to clients through the first year of the child's life.

The Child Welfare Intern will work alongside Pregnancy and Parenting Support Case Managers and the Adoption Social Worker to provide in‑home and community‑based support, education, and access to resources for pregnant and parenting people. Interns will gain experience in case management, support and education of pregnant women and their families, resource connection and referral, outreach and community building, and ethical decision making.

When adoption program experience is available, the Intern may gain experience in multiple aspects of the private adoption process, including counseling expectant parents, completing legal processes, conducting potential adoptive family home studies, and conducting post‑placement visits with children whose parents have made adoption plans.
