The Fiber Optic Splicer II is responsible for expertly splicing fiber optic cables and managing related tasks across various project phases.
Responsibilities· Ensure acceptable testing and on‑time turnover of splicing projects
· Utilize the fiber optic color code for accurate cable identification
· Expertly splice fiber optic cables, including both loose tube and ribbon cables
· Construct proper splice cases and fiber termination panels to meet Company standards
· Identify and perform maintenance to resolve fiber optic issues effectively
· Install, lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other equipment, as required for the job
· Read and interpret fiber records in the field, ensuring accurate documentation
· Other duties as assigned
Requirements· High School diploma or equivalent is required
· 2+ years of experience as a fiber splicer, with experience in outside plant or system installations
· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
· Ability to identify and distinguish colors
· Basic understanding of utility construction installation methodologies, blueprint/construction print reading, and understanding of requirement/specification technical requirements is preferred
· Ability to provide on‑call support and work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends, to address customer needs promptly
- They will train in 3rd shift for the 1st couple of weeks 10pm - 5am
- After they train they will work 1st shift
- They will be on 24/7 call every 6 weeks for the week
· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Skilled in high‑fiber‑count, high‑capacity ribbon splicing, including 864‑count and above.
- Experience as a long‑haul fiber splicer (non‑residential).
- Proficient with:
- Underground fiber work
- Aerial installations
- Panel terminations
- Ability to perform new construction, existing plant work, and maintenance, including pulling down splice cases.
