Public Safety Officer
Part Time Pool
Shift: 8 hour shifts available to cover when a Public Safety Officer has planned time off. Available shifts could be 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, or 12am-8am during the work week and/or weekends. A minimum of 8 hours per month is required.

Overview
The Public Safety Officer is a uniformed, first responder position within the Public Safety Department that provides emergency and public safety services to the Sojourner Family Peace Center (SFPC) community. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Public Safety, the Public Safety Officer employs a variety of proactive patrol techniques and strategies to ensure the safety and security of all Sojourner Family Peace Center affiliated persons and property.
Engages with partners in building oriented with problem solving and crime prevention measures.
What are the Job Responsibilities?
-Employ a variety of proactive patrol techniques and strategies to ensure the safety and security of all SFPC affiliated persons and property. Engages with partners in building oriented with problem solving and crime prevention measures.
-Decisively respond to assigned calls for service, emergent situations, and critical incidents occurring during shift. Employ principles of Incident Command System (ICS) when addressing developing events.
-Act as a first responder to all fire and life safety incidents. Provides initial assessment of situation and makes determination of appropriate response. Administers first aid and life support (e.g., AED and CPR) to victims.
-As assigned, monitor the Department's communications and surveillance center. Answers all incoming calls on service and emergency lines and logs all activities in daily activity reports.
-Assist in associate and executive protection details, investigations, special events security, surveillance activities, and other unique assignments.
-Perform a number of community service functions including, but not limited to conducting safety escorts to and from requested locations within the building and parking lots; completing room inspections and reports regarding safety hazards; and enforcing SFPC policies and procedures.
-Upon request, deliver community based personal safety and security awareness training to clients, staff, and partners. Assists in the preparation of informational material including brochures, handouts, and multimedia presentations.
-Comply with all present and future laws, ordinances, orders, rules, regulations and requirements of all Federal, State and municipal government authorities.
-Hold in confidence and not to use or disclose to others any confidential or proprietary information of Sojourner including but not limited to data, information, plans programs, processes, costs, etc.
-Demonstrate excellent Customer Service Skills when working with employees, partners, visiting clients and shelter residents.

What are we looking for?
-Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning while maintaining a courteous and tactful demeanor in dealings with employees, visitors, and clients, even if they are verbally aggressive persons.
-Demonstrated experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action.
-Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications.
-Ability to use a computer to document work reports (Microsoft Word, Excel, navigating a web page, and database entry).
-Ability to meet and maintain current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, and CPR, etc.
Requirements
-High School diploma or GED is required.
-A minimum of two years prior experience as a uniformed public safety officer in a campus/agency law enforcement or public safety, corporate security, and /or military that includes experiences in responding to emergent situations and identifying and resolving issues that pose a potential risk to clients, visitors, staff and/or property.
-Ability to use a computer to document work reports (Microsoft Word, Excel, navigating a web page, and database entry).
-Ability to meet and maintain current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, and CPR, etc.
