Job Summary
Augments the security leadership team and provides shift leadership in the absence of or in collaboration with the Supervisor and Lead Officers. Engaged in the department training program and serves as a trainer for security staff. Patrols assigned areas of facilities and grounds and responds to emergent and routine situations and calls for service. Performs inspection tours and investigates incidents, as well as general office or record keeping tasks.
Verbally de-escalates and if needed, physically restrains patients or disruptive individuals.
- Provides department leadership to include directing shift activity in the absence of or in collaboration with the Supervisor and Lead Officers. Interprets policies and procedures, trains, equips and directs security personnel, and works towards positive resolution of internal and external customer issues.
- Serves as a member of the department training program. Is engaged in the development and delivery of training for security staff. Provides training to security staff in all required initial and ongoing training programs, as well as participating in meetings associated with training development, coordination and delivery.
- Assists Security Dispatchers as needed, and dispatches personnel to perform emergent and routine security assignments. Answers hospital emergency line, intercom and elevator calls for assistance promptly and professionally. Operates various cameras and alarm systems. Performs parking enforcement related duties, to include, but not limited to, operating parking equipment, greeting, welcoming and directing customers.
- Patrols (by foot or vehicle) assigned areas of facilities and grounds according to established schedule and investigates unusual occurrences. Performs security inspection tours and notifies appropriate personnel of problems, as necessary.
- Investigates and documents incident reports on a wide variety of security-related incidents including but not limited to; crimes committed on the property, injuries sustained on the property, actual or potential loss of hospital, employee, patient, or visitor property through fire, theft, damage, or vandalism. Obtains evidence related to the incident and interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Responds to emergency situations of various types. Responses may include activities such as crowd control, disturbance resolution, verbal and physical intervention, firefighting duties, medical and other activities of a similar nature, including subsequent appearances in court, hearings, or chambers, as requested.
- Questions or detains suspicious individuals or criminal violators on hospital grounds. Restrains disorderly, combative, or injurious individuals according to established training standards as necessary to prevent harm to self or others.
- Directs or escorts employees, staff, visitors, and patients as well as vehicle traffic to all areas of the hospital and grounds, as appropriate.
- Provide basic hospital information services, as needed, including being assigned to a Welcome Center.
