Position: Culinary Assistant (Part-time)

Responsibilities
  • Assists and/or prepares customer orders, including but not limited to eggs made to order, items on the grill or fryer, and kitchen preparation.
  • Follows recipes and retrieves recipe(s) from an electronic database.
  • Performs food preparation—including cleaning, peeling, cutting vegetables, mixing ingredients, sandwich preparation, and food display—under directions.
  • Prepares food for distribution, plating, servings, and setting up and maintaining the serving line selections.
  • Provides customer‑service excellence, addressing student, faculty, and staff concerns, resolving problems, and maintaining safe and sanitary working conditions.
  • Replaces stock regularly on a daily basis.
  • Assists in the set‑up and/or clean‑up of catering requests, maintaining carts, buffets, and tabling catering functions for all areas throughout the district as needed.
  • Delivers catering orders to designated rooms at various district locations on time.
  • Relays orders and messages as required.
  • Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Enters product deliveries into the register inventory tracking system and assists in inventory counts.
  • Cleans dishes, trays, pots, pans, and other relevant tools; performs routine cleaning.
  • Cleans tables and food‑service areas.
  • Demonstrates honesty and adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, values, truthfulness, and accuracy in all actions.
  • Collaborates in the instruction of culinary students and student workers.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position to support effective operation of the division and institutional objectives.
Qualifications
  • Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards and all MATC policies and procedures.
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in a related area.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated competencies in innovation, work‑process optimization, accountability, collaboration, interpersonal savvy, communication, trust, customer focus, action orientation, valuing differences, prioritizing self‑development, and compassion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of using a variety of commercial kitchen equipment, including basic knife skills.
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene and sanitation standards and the ability to maintain these standards.
  • Skill in basic mathematical functions and applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical ability sufficient to lift and move supplies up to 50 lbs, and push or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk long distances and stand during the entire shift.
  • Ability to utilize excellent customer‑service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with MATC staff, faculty, students, external agencies, the business community, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees, students, and school personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Self‑starter able to work independently, collaborate as a team member, and make consistent decisions within established rules.
  • Ability to access and disseminate information using computers and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to complete online mandatory in‑services.
