Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties, including assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height), venipuncture and procedures as directed by the physician. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline.

The candidate prepares treatment rooms for patient examination, may assist in covering the front desk as required, executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act. Refers or consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent or resolve problems or concerns.

Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.

Independence Physician Management (IPM)

IPM, a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. It develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics aligned with UHS acute care facilities, and provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. • Pre‑authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
• Phone/fax patient prescriptions as necessary.
• Schedule tests as ordered by provider.
• Contact patients with lab results and send letters to patients as necessary.
• Accurately perform clinical duties to include triaging patients, checking vitals, administering injections and venipunctures, and prepping patients for physician exam.
