RN Staff Inpatient - Cardiology

Overview

5CN is an Acute Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unit providing complex care to primarily Cardiology and Cardiothoracic patients; located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. Milwaukee is in southeastern Wisconsin, about 90 minutes from Chicago and Madison. The unit is on the shores of Lake Michigan, near Summerfest and other regional events.

Basic Requirements:

• English Language Proficiency
• In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) – no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE
• OR Individuals attending a master’s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
• Upon achievement of a State license – temporary appointment possible with eventual conversion to permanent after bridge program completion

• OR Foreign-educated graduates: current, full, active, unrestricted registration will meet graduation requirements for an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program
• Credit for foreign nursing education higher than an associate degree requires formal degree equivalency validation
• Current, full, active, unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state/territory/COMMONWEALTH or District of Columbia
• Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: may be appointed at entry step on a 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years)
• Grade determinations: dimension criteria and online assessment details available via the VA qualification standards
• Nurse I – Level I to Nurse III progression details (education/experience requirements) including possible paths to BSN/MSN and related fields

  Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as related degrees
• Preferred Experience:
  
  Medical/surgical or cardiac nursing; ACLS certification preferred or to be obtained within one year of start
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Walking, bending, stooping, lifting; may be extended periods of sitting

• 5CN is an acute Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unit providing complex care to primarily Cardiology and Cardiothoracic patients
• The telemetry station in the hospital is located on this unit, providing monitoring of the 15 beds on 5CN, as well as remote monitoring on 4C - 6CN/S and 7C
• All staff achieves and maintains telemetry competence, allowing flexibility in staff assignment to the telemetry station 24/7
• Responsibilities of the Cardiac/Telemetry/Medical-Surgical RN include: communicating courteously with internal/external customers; maintaining confidentiality of patient/employee information; integrating performance improvement into practice; providing care aligned with biopsychosocial needs of the population served; and practicing according to BLS and ACLS standards
