Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for adult patients in an inpatient environment, with a focus on high‑acuity trauma and critical cases within a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive nursing care in a busy 4‑bed Trauma Bay, 55 general ED beds, and triage area.
- Collaborate with dedicated Arena and Trauma teams (4 RNs, 2 techs, 1 paramedic).
- Maintain nursing‑to‑patient ratios appropriate for each care area.
- Participate in 12‑week orientation; may be shorter based on experience and performance.
- Contribute to continuous clinical education, trauma certifications, and professional development.
- Assist in triage and trauma training, ensuring streamlined processes.
- Engage in nursing autonomy and physician partnership.
- Operate within a blended skill mix of junior and experienced Emergency RNs.
- Clinical competence and experience with adult emergency and trauma patients.
- Experience with in a Level 1 Trauma Center is preferred.
- BSN from an accredited School of Nursing preferred.
- Non‑BSN RNs with less than one year of experience must enroll in a BSN program within 15 months of hire; completion required within 5 years (6 years for MSN, DNP, or PhD).
- Current Wisconsin RN license or participation in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.
- Trauma Nurse Certified Course (TNCC) within 1 year of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of hire (or obtained by 6/30/2024 for incumbents).
