  • High-acuity, fast-paced environment
  • Multiple labs:
    Cath Lab, EP, Hybrid (travelers will only work in Cath Lab)
  • 15 total labs; ~11 strictly Cath Lab
Unit Details
  • Minimum Experience:

    3 years
  • First-Time Traveler:
    Not accepted
  • Patient Types:
    Adults only, high-acuity Cath Lab cases
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1
  • Case Types:
    • Diagnostic & Interventional Cath Lab: RHC, LHC, STEMI/NSTEMI, CTO, valvuloplasty, Cardiomems, biopsies, atherectomies, staged PCI, IABP, Impella; ECMO preferred
    • Peripheral diagnostic & interventional cases, fistulograms
    • Hybrid lab (preferred but not required): AAA grafts, thoracic grafts, clips, TAVRs, Watchman
Required Certifications

RN:

  • BLS, ACLS
  • NIHSS (preferred)

RTR:

  • BLS, ACLS
  • WI License
  • RCIS (preferred)
Skills Required

RN:

  • Cath Lab & Peripheral cases as listed above
  • Conscious sedation, titrating/managing drips

RTR:

  • Scrubbing, panning for cases
Equipment Knowledge
  • EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, C-arms (client-specific)
  • Other equipment:
    Volcano, St. Jude, Alphavac, Angiovac, EKOS, Anari (experience not required)
  • Hemodynamic:
    Client Pruka (Mac Lab)
  • PACS:
    Fuji and Pro Solv
  • IABP:
    Maquet
Unit Support
  • Charge Nurse/Lead Tech:
    Yes, generally stays out of cases
  • Housekeeping:
    Room turnover
  • Storeroom Staff:
    Supply management
  • Transporter: 06:30–20:00
  • Receptionist/HUC: 06:00–20:00
  • RT: 24/7, manages vented patients
  • Hospitalist & Cardiology: 24/7 coverage
  • Critical Response Team:
    Available for codes
Orientation
  • 1 week to learn unit flow and lab protocols
Scheduling
  • Lab staffed 24/7; 8- or 12-hour shifts, or combination
  • Weekend Rotation:
    Occasionally, mostly call-based
  • Weekday Call: 12:00–20:30 on call days
  • Call Frequency:
    Every 2–3 months for 7 days, 30-minute response time
  • Time Off: 7 days approved
  • Holiday Expectations:
    As needed
  • Fatigue Policy:
    Maximum 60 hours/week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
