Position: Power Equipment Operator (Part-time, seasonal)

Schedule: Shift Starts at 7AM (Weekdays)

Hourly Rate: $18.50

Overview: Each year Scholastic Book Fairs hosts more than 100,000 events that give more than 35 million students and families access to thousands of affordable and educational products, fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Responsibilities
  • Operate battery-operated and/or gas-powered equipment to transport product to and from inventory storage locations within the facility.
  • Follow all power equipment rules, regulations, and OSHA policies.
  • Use personal protective safety equipment, including lanyards and harnesses at all times when operating stock pickers.
  • Adhere to all facility safety rules and regulations at all times.
  • Perform scanner functions necessary for the position, including cycle-counts, replenishment, item inquiry, and inventory put-away.
  • Stack product neatly and safely when moved via power equipment and when stored in racks or staging locations.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy at all times.
  • Inspect equipment and assist in maintenance as required; report unsafe conditions to management.
  • Handle merchandise carefully, avoiding damage, bending, or tearing.
  • Participate in Physical Inventory and Customer Appreciation Warehouse Sale events.
  • Consistently meet minimum production, accuracy, or quality standards for the work performed.
  • Assist in processing returned book fairs by unpacking metal cases, boxes, and displays with book and non-book product, meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Assist in picking and packing customer reorders.
  • Keep work area neat, clean, safe, and organized at all times.
  • Perform seasonal inventory production-line resets individually and in partnership with co-workers.
  • Assist in loading and unloading trucks, with or without mechanical device assistance.
  • Utilize warehouse equipment and tools properly to increase productivity, efficiency, and safety; report unsafe conditions or injuries immediately.
  • Use proper lifting, packing, and handling techniques for heavy objects.
  • Accurately and timely complete Labor Data Collection Cards according to company standards.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality as required by the assigned work schedule and company standards.
  • Maintain courteous and positive relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Comply with the drug and alcohol free policy.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
  • Trained and licensed to operate power equipment.
  • Minimum 1 year power equipment operation experience for non-internal promotions.
  • Completion of a forklift training program required.
  • Basic product scanner proficiency with minimal errors.
  • Strong team player who gets along with co-workers.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read safety documents in English.
  • At least 18 years of age.
Physical Demands
  • Lift boxes up to 50 lbs occasionally on a daily basis.
  • Stand, reach above and below shoulders, squat, bend, and kneel as necessary.
  • Tolerate work in a non-air conditioned environment.
  • Successfully complete required training and become certified to operate the powered industrial equipment assigned, maintaining certification.
  • Drug free and pass initial and random drug screens.
  • Correctly wear any personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for tasks requiring PPE.
