JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Performs diversified highly skilled machining operations to complete intricate fixturing and tooling requirements for production usage. Plan, layout and perform a variety of machining and assembly operations to construct, fabricate, alter and repair tooling, jigs, machine parts, gauges and fixtures meeting tolerances and specifications. Requires in depth knowledge of tooling and fixturing and the ability to be part of a design team.

Work for drawing and or specifications of all complexities. Ability to use a variety of inspection equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Work closely with process engineering to ensure fixturing requirements for shop production completed accurately and timely.
  • Check tools and machines for correct operation. Immediately report any quality or malfunction issue to departmental lead.
  • Plan and perform difficult machine setups and operations to produce a wide variety of parts and details having a multiplicity of dimensions of very close specifications.
  • Work from complicated ideas, drawings, blue-prints and specifications.
  • Use a wide variety of precision instruments for exacting measurements.
  • Layout work and plan operations and perform difficult setups to produce parts to print.
  • Align parts and fixturing, select feeds and speeds and operations sequences, grind tools as required to meet specifications of print or material.
  • Sharpen and grind tooling as needed.
  • Ability to perform experimental work and create machine parts from damaged parts.
  • Adhere to all standard operating procedures.
  • Recognize defective or faulty craftsmanship and report issues to departmental manager.
  • Maintain all tools and fixturing used.
  • Perform variety of support functions to production as needed.
  • Keep work area and equipment clean. (5S)
  • Work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and procedures to ensure personal safety as well as others safety.
  • Aid in rigging and hook up of equipment.
  • When limited or no work available may work in other areas.
  • Assist in the training of new employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Five years of short run production shop work. Capable of setup of CNC lathe, CNC mill as well as all tool-room based equipment. Trade education preferred. Knowledge of all current product lines.

Ability to interact with customers, vendors, etc in a positive manner. Must have good communication skills. Ability to perform to verbal instructions, as well as read/interpret all machining documents including but not limited to: blueprints, test information. Ability to use power and hand tools, gauges, testing devices and small machines to inspect components to specifications and test. Ability to work with minimal supervision or no supervision.

Ability to train others. Work requires skill and assembling techniques, plus experience and a knowledge of design and basic mechanical principles. Responsible for instructing, directing and maintaining the flow of work in a group of up to 15 people.
