This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for testing and evaluating if products meet both internal and industry specifications, using standard and customized laboratory equipment and industry-compliant procedures for a food manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities- Performing all required in-house quality control testing on samples for approval and in accordance with written Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Performing routine equipment calibrations or verifications (e.g., scales, pH meters) in compliance with testing and production parameters.
- Conforming and promoting all stated and implied food safety protocols in accordance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
- Coordinating and performing inoculation of seed material inoculum used in large scale fermentation.
- Utilizing aseptic techniques to ensure sterility of all media, equipment, and work area.
- Keeping detailed and accurate records in company databases (SAP, LIMS) of all conducted tests, evaluations and analyses.
- Keeping detailed and accurate records of training received.
- Completing assigned production journals, batch records and/or lab requisitions.
- Communicating any testing nonconformance to relevant stakeholders (e.g., QC Management, PMG, QA, Production) as necessary.
- Assisting with training and onboarding of staff in areas of attained proficiency.
- Actively participating in internal Continuous Improvement programs and KPIs (Kaizen, Metrics, Lean, 5S).
- Keeping lab and work area clean and orderly.
- Adhering to safety and hygiene requirements for production and warehouse areas; complying with GMPs and applicable laws, including restrictions on jewelry, false nails, nail polish, strong fragrances, and cell phone use.
- This role is performed in a laboratory/manufacturing environment where exposure to allergens may occur; appropriate safety measures and protective equipment are provided.
- Ability to read and comprehend documents such as SOPs, Work Instructions, and Equipment Manuals.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from colleagues, other departments, and auditors.
- Ability to perform and interpret basic mathematical functions.
- Ability to adapt and use critical thinking tools when solving problems.
- Ability to develop a Continuous Improvement mindset in-house to support an established company wide culture.
- Ability to interpret testing results and follow SOPs for appropriate action.
- Ability to operate a variety of lab and office equipment.
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and compliance requirements.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Ability to use metric volume measurements (mL) and temperatures in Celsius (C).
- Ability to perform basic dilution series on product in accordance with specifications or recipes.
- Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field or three years of full-time laboratory experience.

Working environment is generally favorable with adequate lighting, temperature and noise levels; occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment is required in designated areas (lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, gloves). A dust mask is required when working with powdered media substances. Weekend and holiday work may be required.
Physical demandsStanding, walking, talking, and hearing are regularly required. Lifting and moving materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of hands. Vision requirements include color vision and depth perception. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
