Production Supervisor

Department: Production / Manufacturing

Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Production Supervisor is a pivotal leader responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency. This role requires a proactive individual who excels at people management, process documentation, and cross‑functional collaboration. The ideal candidate will be a systems‑oriented leader, dedicated to developing their team and optimizing production workflows.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Performance Management:

  • Directly supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of production associates.
  • Track and monitor employee attendance, punctuality, and hours worked.
  • Monitor job completion rates, ensuring production schedules and deadlines are met.
  • Manage labor allocation and report on direct and indirect hours.
  • Oversee and approve employee charge numbers to ensure accurate job costing and reporting.

2. Administrative & Resource Planning:

  • Manage and maintain team vacation schedules, time‑off requests, and overtime planning to ensure adequate coverage for production needs.
  • Analyze production data related to hours, completion rates, and efficiency to identify trends and areas for improvement.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Serve as the primary production liaison with the Quality Department.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues, non‑conformances, and customer complaints in a timely manner.
  • Implement and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) on the production floor.
  • Ensure all team activities comply with company quality standards (e.g., ISO, GMP) and safety regulations.

4. Process Documentation & Training Development:

  • Author, update, and maintain clear and detailed Work Instructions for all relevant production processes.
  • Research, author, and develop engaging Skills Training Modules for production equipment, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a library of all controlled documents and training materials.

5. Training & Team Development:

  • Conduct hands‑on training for new hires and existing employees on procedures, equipment, and quality standards.
  • Assess employee skills and competencies, identifying gaps and creating development plans.
  • Facilitate cross‑training initiatives to enhance team flexibility and operational resilience.
  • Track and document all training activities for the team.
Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in a manufacturing supervisory or team lead role.
  • Demonstrated ability to track, analyze, and report on production metrics (efficiency, labor hours, completion rates).
  • Strong experience with timekeeping systems, vacation scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with experience authoring work instructions or standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Hands‑on experience in developing and delivering effective training.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a formal Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949).
  • Formal training in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems for job tracking and labor reporting.
