The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) is a professional medical society dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of allergy, asthma, and immunology. With more than 7,000 members worldwide, AAAAI supports education, research, clinical care, and advocacy to improve patient outcomes. Its work includes publishing leading scientific journals, hosting an annual scientific meeting, providing continuing medical education, advocating for issues impacting physician practice, funding research through its Foundation, and offering resources and tools for both clinicians and the public.

The mission of the National Allergy Bureau (NAB) is “To promote optimal outdoor airborne pollen and fungal spore data collection by advancing and ensuring standardized collection and counting for the public domain, medical profession, and scientific community through the certified pollen and fungal spore counter.”

Job Overview

Responsible for management/administrative support of the AAAAI Aerobiology Committee and National Allergy Bureau (NAB). The NAB is comprised of pollen and spore counting stations staffed primarily by AAAAI member volunteers. The NAB provides the most accurate and reliable pollen and mold levels from approximately 84 counting stations throughout the United States and internationally.

Position Responsibilities
  • Oversee the NAB public and collector’s website; coordinate communications between the Aerobiology Committee and NAB stations and counters.
  • Oversee NAB counter certification process and maintain all records related to individual counters.
  • Manage MYNAB daily email alert system.
  • Oversee public requests, approval and distribution process for NAB data requests.
  • Organize and manage aeroallergen identification course and related NAB/Aerobiology Committee activities at the AAAAI Annual Meeting.
  • Address general public and media inquiries regarding the NAB and its operations.
  • Facilitate strategic collaboration with national and international air monitoring networks.
  • Conduct timely correspondence regarding data ownership and/or use of NAB data.
  • Regularly engage in environmental scanning and external networking to help identify best practices in database management and aeroallergen collection and analysis.
  • Develop and disseminate marketing and communications materials for the NAB, including compilation of quarterly NAB newsletter.
  • Manage physical inventory of NAB supplies.
  • Serve as liaison to the Aerobiology Committee, coordinating activities to ensure achievement of goals and objectives. Provide direct administrative support for meetings, conference calls, minutes and reports to the AAAAI Board of Directors; and provide counsel to Executive Committee leadership as needed for sensitive issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, communications skills, both oral and written; computer proficiency and data analysis acumen to determine trends/correlations; strong facilitation skills to move projects/committee work forward.

Education / Experience

Minimum 2-years of project/program management, database management; engagement with marketing and volunteer management experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Travel Required

Approximately 1 week per year.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff‑in‑office day) are a requirement of the role.

Physical Requirements

Occasional lifting of 20-30 pounds may be required.

Additional Information

Attendance at the AAAAI Annual Meeting and participation in occasional early morning or evening conference calls is required.
