Overview

Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and External Affairs (Vice President) – Milwaukee Area Technical College invites applications, nominations, and expressions of interest for a senior institutional leader who will advance long-term strategy, external positioning, and institutional momentum. As a member of the President's Executive Leadership Team, this person contributes a broad institutional perspective and participates in decision-making that supports the College's mission, vision, and goals, while promoting an environment that is passionate about meeting and exceeding student expectations.

The Vice President maintains direct supervisory responsibility for three critical functions: governmental relations, marketing and communications, and strategic planning and institutional effectiveness. The position will ensure that the goals and objectives of the services and departments led are accomplished within prescribed time parameters, within budget, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and in a manner that meets service goals and customer service standards.

Tasks are varied and often time critical.

Milwaukee Area Technical College has a long history dating back to 1912, when it was founded as the Milwaukee Continuation School. It became one of the first technical and vocational schools in the United States. The school initially served young adults who had left high school to work but needed additional skills and training to advance in their jobs. Over time, the institution evolved to meet the demands of Milwaukee's changing workforce and economy, expanding its programs to offer a wider array of technical and vocational training options.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership over governmental relations, marketing and communications, and strategic planning and institutional effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the President's Executive Leadership Team with a broad institutional perspective and participate in decisions that support the College's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Promote an environment focused on meeting and exceeding student expectations.
  • Ensure department goals are accomplished within prescribed time frames and budgets while complying with applicable laws and regulations and meeting service and customer service standards.
  • Manage time-critical tasks and coordinate across functions to advance institutional momentum.
Qualifications and Expectations

The position requires experience as a senior institutional leader capable of advancing long-term strategy, external positioning, and institutional momentum. The Vice President maintains supervisory responsibility for three key functions and demonstrates ability to work collaboratively within the President's Executive Leadership Team to support the College's mission and goals.
