Description:
The Director of Engineering will ensure that our cross‑functional product development teams are maximizing value delivery to our insurance customers. The position demands both strategic and operational thinking to ensure that the right products and solutions are being prioritized, developed and delivered to meet evolving customer needs.
- Lead product development of major product areas through all phases of product development, with a heavy focus on both product discovery and delivery.
- Assist in determining the strategic direction and development of Zywave’s product portfolio.
- Create high‑performance product development teams with continuous coaching and mentoring.
- Ensure teams understand the product strategy and their mission and objectives to help achieve it.
- Collaborate with other directors to balance the needs of the entire product portfolio.
- Continuously evaluate need for process or other team improvements via integrative retrospection.
- Performance management of direct and indirect reports, with the intent to develop top talent in house.
- Determine team structure to optimize productivity and execute hiring decisions.
- Embrace servant leadership model.
- Balance tech debt.
- Experience in fast paced, high growth, acquisitive environment.
- Strong technology background including a grasp of core web technologies and ability for informed participation in technology, user and business‑oriented discussions.
- Financial/business acumen and analytical competence.
- Must have the appetite to take risks for self and the team. Show managerial courage in effectively collaborating.
- Able to be a leader to all parties involved in the product life cycle – product, UX, technology.
- Able to manage multiple projects and priorities across teams.
- Critical thinking skills to quickly make and measure decisions and define goals across products during planning and execution.
- Confidence to leverage intuition to translate the unknown opportunity into an actionable plan.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working effectively with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
- Comfortable with short/real‑time planning, and ability to maintain a consistent focus on short‑term tactics and long‑term goals.
- A minimum of 5 years of managing SaaS software teams in a heavily iterative and agile environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science.
- Confirmed passion for continuous learning, teaching and improvement.
