The paralegal position is an excellent position for a motivated individual looking for an opportunity to grow within CACI. In this role, you will work collaboratively with teams of USAO attorneys in the Criminal and Civil Units to handle a wide variety of litigation support tasks from the basics (preparing and filing documents with courts and organizing, tracking and archiving legal documents) to the more complex tasks (redacting and protecting privilege information, conducting factual and legal research, assisting in witness interviews, depositions and trial preparation by preparing binders, indexing discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits, and providing in‑court room assistance).

Responsibilities:- Assist legal support staff in legal document review, redacting, developing organizing exhibits, compiling notebooks, pulling file copies, assembling jury instructions, compiling witness lists, tabbing binders, labeling, and refining documents.
- Use a variety of applications to search and retrieve information necessary to complete assigned tasks: e.g., an internal case management database, files located on shared file network, and external sources such as court records or other agencies.
- Examine, prepare, and process a variety of technical legal documents which are voluminous and complex in format, e.g., indictments, criminal complaints, warrants, motions, notices, orders, pleadings, summons and subpoenas and other documents as needed. Obtain supporting information from files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources.
- Conduct research of issues using legal and non‑legal databases and websites. Conduct non‑complex research of statutes, regulations, and court cases for case source material.
- Perform docketing duties such as opening, updating, and closing criminal cases through use of an automated case tracking system.
- Run standard reports in an automated case management system and process resulting reports according to established procedures.
- Digitize legal case files in accordance with established policy.
- Maintain calendar(s) of assigned cases for AUSA(s), scheduling appointments, interviews, and conferences, and provide reminders of commitments, court appearances and deadlines.
- Work with the USAO Records Coordinator to transfer data from and between file servers, cloud servers and external media in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations. Use established policies, such as the General Records Schedule and NARA‑approved agency records schedules, to prepare litigation case files and other records to be stored or shipped to the Federal Records Center. Assemble physical case files in boxes and move boxes into shipping containers for shipment and purge legal documents not archived.
- Receive case related telephone calls and verify identification of visitors to the USAO; control access in accordance with district policy; use discretion in determining what information can be provided and to whom.
- Ensure legal mail is processed or metered according to established policy.
- Assist with conference and courtroom preparation and set up for meetings, hearings, depositions, and trial.
Required:
- Requires paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA‑accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
- One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.
- Role also requires basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research,…
