The OpportunityThe UWM Foundation is seeking a strategic, hands‑on technology and data leader to steward our information ecosystem at a pivotal moment in our organization’s growth.
With core systems recently modernized—including a May 2024 conversion to Salesforce/Affinaquest—this role leads the next phase of optimization
, ensuring our technology, data, and analytics capabilities meaningfully advance fundraising effectiveness, donor engagement, and long‑term mission impact.
Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Business Systems & Data Strategy serves as the Foundation’s senior technology and data leader
, with responsibility for donor data stewardship, system integrity, information security, and technology risk in alignment with the Foundation’s fiduciary obligations and values.

- Shape and execute the Foundation’s technology and data strategy within a shared‑services environment supporting University Advancement and affiliated organizations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Foundation and Advancement leadership, translating technology investments, risks, and opportunities into clear, decision‑ready insights.
- Establish governance and prioritization frameworks that balance shared needs with strong stewardship of donor data and institutional trust.
- Lead the transition from post‑implementation to full optimization of Salesforce/Affinaquest, improving fundraising performance, donor stewardship, and operational efficiency.
- Own a prioritized roadmap of enhancements, automation, integrations, and workflow improvements.
- Apply disciplined project and change‑management practices to ensure adoption, sustainability, and measurable value.
- Establish data governance standards, data‑quality routines, and ownership across systems.
- Enable reliable reporting and analytics that support portfolio management, pipeline health, campaign planning, and leadership decision‑making.
- Promote operational rigor through documentation, standardization, and continuous data improvement.
- Sustain and strengthen the Foundation’s information security posture, embedding security and resilience into enterprise risk management.
- Maintain standards for access control, monitoring, staff security awareness, and vendor oversight.
- Formalize and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Lead, coach, and support a small, multi‑skilled IT team in a lean environment, balancing strategic leadership with targeted hands‑on engagement.
- Partner effectively with external vendors while maintaining strong internal ownership and accountability.
- Foster a collaborative, service‑oriented culture grounded in trust, transparency, and mission alignment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (advanced degree a plus).
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in IT, systems, or data‑focused roles.
- Demonstrated leadership through people management, project leadership, vendor oversight, and/or cross‑functional initiatives.
- Deep experience with Salesforce;
Affinaquest or advancement‑technology experience strongly preferred. - Strong grounding in data governance, reporting, analytics, and information security.
- A clear, collaborative communicator who builds trust and translates complex technology topics into accessible insights.
