MRI Technologist
Location: Milwaukee, WI 53215
Type: Contract or Permanent (adjust as needed)
Department: Diagnostic Imaging / Radiology
The MRI Technologist performs high-quality MRI scans to support accurate diagnosis and treatment while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and excellent care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, technical proficiency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary imaging team.
Key Responsibilities MRI Scanning & Technical Duties- Perform MRI examinations according to physician orders, departmental protocols, and safety standards.
- Operate MRI scanners and related imaging equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Select appropriate imaging parameters, coils, and patient positioning for each exam.
- Screen patients for contraindications (implants, pacemakers, metal objects, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with MRI safety zones and safety procedures at all times.
- Assist radiologists with specialized studies, contrast exams, and complex imaging protocols.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and determine if repeat imaging is required.
- Greet and prepare patients for MRI procedures, providing clear instructions and reassurance.
- Assess patient comfort levels and modify positioning to reduce anxiety or pain.
- Start and monitor IVs for contrast administration (if applicable).
- Respond calmly and efficiently to emergent patient situations.
- Provide compassionate care for patients with claustrophobia, special needs, or limited mobility.
- Coordinate workflow with radiologists, nurses, schedulers, and fellow technologists.
- Document patient information, exam notes, and contrast usage accurately within the EMR/PACS.
- Maintain a clean, organized imaging environment and ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
- Assist with training students or new team members as needed.
- Follow ACR, hospital, and MRI safety guidelines.
- Adhere to infection control procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, equipment checks, and protocol updates.
- Handle patient data confidentially per HIPAA standards.
- ARRT (R) required; ARRT (MR) strongly preferred.
- Wisconsin Radiographer License (or eligibility).
- CPR/BLS Certification.
- 1–2 years of MRI experience preferred (open to strong X-ray techs cross-training if facility allows).
- Strong understanding of MRI physics, safety, anatomy, and imaging protocols.
- Ability to work independently and handle fast-paced, high-volume imaging schedules.
