Performs validation of new applications while recognizing the clinical significance of each test. The Analyst maintains the confidential and sensitive nature of patient information results.
Responsibilities- Acts as the subject matter expert in clinical diagnostic laboratory providing molecular diagnosis of genetic disease.
- Performs and interprets genetic sequences in the context of patient history and physician order (but not limited to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), Sanger sequencing, qPCR, and fragment analysis by capillary electrophoresis).
- Assembles sequencing results and interpretations of germline and somatic sequence variants from patient samples within the context of inherited and acquired conditions to determine their clinical significance, by evaluating variant function, and genotype-phenotype relationships using scientific literature, current classification guidelines, and available genomic tools.
- Leads research and explores the possibilities of new molecular tests or methodologies for future implementation within the clinical laboratory. Assists with the validation of new applications in the clinical laboratory.
- Writes clear, communicable reports based on test results. Consistently follows established protocols for interpreting and verifying test results. Recognizes abnormal or inconsistent results and investigates appropriately and timely. Notifies leadership of potential problems immediately to avoid compromising patient care.
