Summary
A postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Jim Hokanson in the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. The research in the lab focuses on developing novel diagnostics and therapeutics to treat pelvic dysfunction, particularly urgency urinary incontinence. Applicant will work closely with members of Aaron Mickle lab in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The position and research project are fully funded by the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Highly motivated individuals with a Ph.D. and a strong track record of research accomplishments as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals are encouraged to apply.
- Develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches related to lower urinary tract dysfunction.
- Assess functionality of these diagnostics and therapeutics in animal models as well as in humans (through collaborations with clinicians).
- Analyze data; write manuscripts; develop posters and presentations; write grants.
- Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff in which you will discuss your project and other projects within the laboratory group.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Laboratory techniques related to data acquisition setup, animal models, and electrical stimulation.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Mentorship skills for junior scientists and students.
Minimum Required Education: Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering, bioengineering, or a related scientific field.
Minimum Required Experience: 0 years of prior postdoc experience
Preferred Experience: Ideal candidate will have experience with neuromodulation, lower urinary tract physiology, neuroscience, animal models, and experimental data analysis.
Physical RequirementsWork requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.
Work EnvironmentOccasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
Sensory AcuityAbility to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
