Standard
Hours:
40.00
- Demonstrates proper care and handling of pathology specimens, which are unique and irretrievable specimens required for lifesaving diagnosis. Demonstrates a level of responsibility commensurate with critical patient care.
- Recognizes different tissue types and the unique handling requirements for each.
- Orients and embeds tissues properly for tissue block creation.
- Properly uses microtomes for cutting to preserve tissues and create diagnostic slides.
- Stains specimens with H&E (Hematoxylin and Eosin) stain and recognizes quality issues associated with the stain.
- Performs daily maintenance and quality control checks for histology equipment.
- Works proficiently with the laboratory information system used for lab testing and patient record searches.
- May assist in providing training as needed.
High school diploma and 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university. These hours must include 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both).
