Overview
Under limited supervision, perform sanitation and support services for laboratory animal facilities and assist with equipment maintenance and operational tasks. Provide technical support for cage wash operations and facility upkeep, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. May provide guidance to Facility Support Technician I staff.
Responsibilities- Sanitize, organize, and maintain animal cages and equipment by operating cage washers, tunnel washers, bedding dispensers, and autoclaves.
- Perform routine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting of cage wash equipment; escalate complex issues to senior staff or supervisor.
- Sanitize animal rooms, cages, equipment, corridors, and support areas using appropriate techniques to promote animal health and welfare and comply with policies.
- Monitor environment and equipment by obtaining, documenting, and comparing data against established standards; maintain accurate records.
- Receive and properly process shipments from loading dock; assist with packaging and disposal of waste materials following proper procedures.
- Provide guidance and informal training to Facility Support Technician I staff on standard operating procedures.
- Assist with special projects and cross-train in other facility support areas as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and communicating opportunities for operational efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of laboratory animal facility operations and sanitation methods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and demonstrate dependability.
- Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.

Physical RequirementsWork requires movement of feed, bedding, cages, and other equipment; requires regular pushing, pulling and lifting of heavy objects. Must climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch and stand or walk continuously. Must be able to manipulate equipment using both hands. Perceive attributes of objects such as size and shape using fingers and hands. Many repetitive motions are required, including wrist rotations, stoops, body turns, reaching overhead and lifts.
WorkEnvironment
Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Exposure to animal wastes, chemicals, acids, odors, loud noises, heat, humidity and wet surfaces is to be expected. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
Sensory AcuityAbility to detect and interpret speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
