Medical Assistant (MA) or LPN - Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic

Join Aurora Health Care as a Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in our Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic. This role supports patient care, clinical procedures, and clinic operations.

Base Pay Range

$21.45/hr - $32.20/hr for MA; $23.65/hr - $35.50/hr for LPN.

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare and room patients for examination by collecting vital signs, updating health information, and documenting details; monitor and complete clinical integration and quality improvement measures.
  • Perform laboratory procedures (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) following aseptic technique and infection control guidelines.
  • Assist the Physician or Advanced Practice Clinician with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
  • Administer routine medications under Physician/APC orders or approved standing orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
  • Coordinate procedure or test requests, pre‑approved care algorithms, new appointment times, and referrals; refer questions to RNs or physicians per scope of practice.
  • Communicate with Physician/APC and team members to ensure smooth clinic flow and provide accurate timely information to patients.
  • Perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks such as removal of sutures and staples, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, and prescription refills under supervision.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to patient age, assessing data, and interpreting information to meet age‑specific needs as per department policies.
Licensure or Certifications
  • LPN
    :
    Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state;
    Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA) required within 45 days unless otherwise determined.
  • MA
    :
    Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA) required within 45 days unless otherwise determined.
Degrees
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • LPN
    :
    Advanced training beyond high school, completion of an accredited or approved Practical Nursing program.
  • MA
    :
    Completion of an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program, or 2 years of verifiable full‑time experience as an MA within the last 5 years.
Experience Required
  • Experienced MA/LPN candidate preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Perform routine and complex technical skills within MA scope after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with patients, team members, and physicians.
  • Proficient computer skills: keyboarding, navigation within Windows OS, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical record systems.
  • Customer‑service skills supporting a positive patient experience.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance; patient lifts over 35 pounds require patient‑handling equipment and a second team member when available.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine‑hand manipulation skills.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body‑fluid hazards; protective clothing and equipment required.
  • Operate equipment necessary to perform the job.
