Research

The Research Speech‑Language Pathologist (MA/MS, CCC‑SLP) will join an NIH‑funded team advancing diagnosis and understanding of pediatric motor speech disorders, including childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and dysarthria. The role involves expert diagnosis, advanced speech analysis, development of standardized assessment protocols, and mentorship of clinicians and research staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Expert‑level differential diagnosis of CAS and dysarthria in pediatric populations.
  • Conduct advanced perceptual speech pathology analyses with expert‑level reliability in identifying 22 defined motor speech features within pediatric populations.
  • Dynamic motor speech assessment of children with neurological speech disorders.
  • Perform expert‑level narrow phonetic transcription and scoring of severely disordered pediatric speech using the International Phonetic Alphabet with diacritics.
  • Supervision and mentorship of speech‑language pathologists and research assistants, including development of clinician training and diagnostic protocols, recruitment, training, and performance oversight of staff and students; and serve as a liaison between families, clinicians, and the research team.
  • Scholarly contribution to research dissemination through preparation of conference presentations, abstracts, and peer‑reviewed manuscripts.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • MA/MS, CCC‑SLP with minimum of 2000 hours experience working with children with CAS.
  • At least 2 years of experience working as a research speech pathologist on a study of children with childhood apraxia of speech or dysarthria.
  • Completed specialized training program in CAS (e.g., OUAT training, Apraxia Kids training).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with: expertise in administering motor speech and other speech pathology assessments; expertise in scoring motor speech and other speech pathology assessments.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills used for hiring, training and managing a large team of speech pathologists and student workers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Articulate communication and professional writing skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a research speech pathologist providing high‑fidelity assessment and treatment to children with motor speech disorders.
Preferred Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • 2500 hours of experience working with children with CAS.
