What you will doWe are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Senior Financial Analyst to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial analysis, with experience in the health care and/or insurance industries.
Location:
Remote.
- Performs the more complex financial functions related to the health insurance products maintained by the Health System including claims reserves, forecasting by product line, external reporting, and special projects. Oversees Health Insurance statutory reporting with assistance from outside vendors.
- Prepares the monthly Claims IBNR estimate using our actuary’s lag tool including the analysis of claims expense trends. Incorporates this into monthly forecasts and annual budgets.
- Completes monthly financial forecast for all insurance products.
- Assists the Senior Accountant and Financial Services Manager with month end close and serves as a back-up for that role. Serves as the first point of contact for the external statutory accountant that prepares the quarterly NAIC report filings and as the first point of contact for the external actuary. Gathers and submits the request schedules.
- As needed, prepares proforma statements and narratives to summarize the impact proposed business and reporting changes will have on the financial statements and the required insurance surplus reserves.
- As needed, prepares formal and ad-hoc analysis of current claims in order to investigate high or low claims trends.
- Prepares the year end audited statutory financial statements for Children’s Community Health Plan (CCHP) including report gathers and footnote preparation. Serves as the first point of contact for external financial auditors.
- Working with the Senior Accountant and Health Plan Data Analysts, coordinates and prepares the annual Medical Loss Ratio reports for federal and state reporting.
- Prepares the monthly Financial Update schedules for CCHP (Finance Committee presentation). As needed, reviews financial statements with staff to identify any reporting changes or new entries.
- Prepares the annual administrative expense forecast for Individual Premium rate setting as well as other financial analysis requested by the CCHP and finance leadership team related to the rate setting process.
- Monitors and tracks Pay for Performance and Incentive metrics and the resulting financial implications.
- Bachelor's Degree requires extensive knowledge of accounting and financial analysis principles, theories, and techniques of accounting, acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Finance or Accounting.
- Accounting degree with CPA preferred.
- 5+ years progressively responsible work experience with a minimum of three years direct financial analyst experience required.
- Health care experience preferred.
- Insurance experience preferred.
