Position: Tooling Engineer (2214)

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Tooling Manager, the Tooling Engineer is responsible for assisting the Tooling Engineering Department in directing the manufacture of quality injection molding tools. This will be achieved by maintaining Hellermann Tyton's IATF
16949/ISO
9001 Quality and ISO
14001 EMS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation.

Title: Tooling Engineer

Reports to: Tooling Manager

Department: Tooling Engineering

Essential Functions
  • Write purchase orders with mold building specifications.
  • Write requests for quotations for vendors.
  • Ensure vendors stay within budget and timing constraints on projects.
  • Evaluate and approve injection molding tool designs.
  • Ensure vendors incorporate the approved design in injection molding tool construction.
  • Maintain a library of tool drawings.
  • Travel to vendors to evaluate progress in injection molding tool construction and to evaluate completed tool performance and product conformity.
  • Evaluate product design for moldability and simplification.
  • Assist in troubleshooting injection molding problems.
  • Work with injection molding tool designs to ensure the highest quality molding tools.
  • Work with toolmakers to ensure the highest quality injection molding tools.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree or, in lieu of degree, three or more years of prior on-the-job experience with good mechanical ability.
  • Prior experience with plastic injection molding process.
  • Knowledge of injection molding tools and their construction.
  • Knowledge of machine tools and how they relate to injection mold tool construction.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing best practices.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft software and CAD software.
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ready to work non-standard hours to meet customer needs.
  • Ready to travel internationally.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and adequate automobile insurance.
