Role OverviewLead tooling design engineer for the X‑Ray Tubes design and manufacturing facility located in West Milwaukee, WI. This includes design from concept to implementation of tooling required for x‑ray tube manufacturing. Engineer would own tooling development from concept to manufacturing implementation working with an on‑site design and manufacturing team. Engineer would be responsible for designing tooling to ensure highest safety while accounting for part, process, and equipment variation.
Additionally, engineer would lead fabrication, procurements, and standardization of tooling designs where applicable.
- Designing fixtures, jigs, and general assembly aids for production and R&D builds, primarily for x-ray tube manufacturing.
- Make tool drawings, supporting in‑house tool manufacturing and assembly, and evaluating and selecting tool manufacturing suppliers.
- Review product designs and make recommendations on tooling projects to ensure manufacturability, efficiency, and cost‑savings.
- Handle developing tooling for a wide range of manufacturing processes including but not limited to welding, turning, grinding, milling, vacuum brazing, precision assembly, coating, high level assembly.
- Participate in tool design reviews.
- Work with component design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and industrial engineering to achieve the best possible cradle to grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment).
- Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, and commissioning of tooling.
- Set, implement, and maintain schedules to ensure project completion.
- Facilitate effective and collaborative communication by fostering creativity and leveraging team member strengths.
