This position will involve advanced analysis and experimentation to improve performance and reliability of both residential and commercial heat pump water heaters (HPWHs), and to guide other research in materials, manufacturing, and electronic controls. A moderate amount of travel (10‑15 %) may be required. The role performs advanced engineering tasks with no direct supervision and serves as lead mentor to the engineering design team throughout the entire development cycle from concept to successful completion.
Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of an engineering project from start to finish so that it is completed on time
- Perform advanced engineering tasks under limited supervision
- Assist with product engineering and troubleshooting activities as needed
- Analyze and identify causes of component failures
- Lead brainstorming activities and provide technical solutions to meet customer issues
- Coordinate activities of engineering team, technicians, and prototype shop as necessary
- Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the team
- Prepare monthly reports detailing progress for top management
- Collaborate with others on writing patents, papers, or trade secrets
- Participate in industry groups (e.g. ASHRAE)
- Other projects and duties as assigned
- MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
PhD a plus - 5 years relevant industrial experience
- Strong experimental and analytical HVAC&R system and component background
- Knowledge of advanced HVAC&R technologies and refrigerants
- Familiarity with HVAC&R testing methods and associated instrumentation
- Practical experience with heat transfer and computational fluid dynamics
- Ability and desire to conduct laboratory studies
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Experience with CAE tools such as MATLAB, Lab View, Minitab, EES, CFD or FEA
- Excellent analytical skills for reviewing and solving complex problems
- Strong communication (written and oral) and organizational skills
