Automation Engineer
Greater Milwaukee, WI (On-site) (North of Milwaukee)
Full-time | Monday–Friday

A well‑established U.S. manufacturer of precision electromechanical components is expanding its automation capabilities and modernizing production systems. They are known for technical rigor, reliability, and customer‑focused service—and we’re investing in the next generation of manufacturing.
This engineering role will have you doing the design, build, and programming of automated and semi‑automated production equipment
, blending classic manufacturing engineering with software development, PC‑based machine control, and equipment design
. This is a hands‑on role that partners closely with engineering leadership, production, and maintenance to launch new systems, improve efficiency, and enhance product consistency.
- Design, develop, and program automated/semi‑automated production equipment
- Build and maintain PC‑based control systems for custom tools and machines
- Write control software (e.g., C/C++/C#,
Python
, VB
, embedded systems
) - Integrate sensors, actuators, motion systems
, and data acquisition hardware - Troubleshoot, optimize, and upgrade automation systems for performance and reliability
- Support data handling, machine logging, and basic database interactions (
SQL Server
)
- Design, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision components
- Support new product introduction (process flows, tooling, work instructions)
- Assist in custom tooling and equipment design/development
- Lead improvements to boost productivity, quality
, and reduce scrap/rework - Collaborate with production to resolve day‑to‑day issues
Establish/maintain process standards for quality and repeatability - Evaluate and recommend new equipment, tooling, and technologies
- Train production teams on new processes, equipment, and best practices
- Partner with maintenance/engineering on automation and controls troubleshooting
Education (Preferred):
- EE, EET, ME, MET, CE, Manufacturing Engineering
- Engineering degrees paired with a Computer Science minor are a strong fit
- CS majors with substantial mechanical/engineering exposure also considered
Experience &
Skills:
- Programming: C/C++/C#,
Python
, VB
, and embedded systems - Hands‑on with sensors, actuators, motion systems
, and PC‑based control hardware - SQL Server familiarity is a plus
- CAD proficiency (
Inventor, Solid Works
, or equivalent) - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Clear communication and cross‑functional collaboration mindset
- Curiosity and willingness to learn while working closely with engineering leadership
- Full‑time
, Monday–Friday
- $75,000 – $95,000 base, commensurate with experience
