Construction Specialist ; New Grads

Overview

Construction Specialist 1 (2026 New Grads!) at CDM Smith in Milwaukee, WI. This entry-level role offers exposure to the construction industry with a focus on field and site administration across pursuit, planning/execution, and close-out. • Assist in reviewing documents, preparing deliverables, and participating in pre-bid site visits during the pursuit phase.
• Assist in determining total project costs by evaluating proposals and researching labor, material, and equipment costs.
• Develop a preliminary schedule for engineering and construction and create General Conditions requirements (staffing, temporary facilities, security, safety).
• In the planning and execution phase, collaborate with the project team, subcontractors, clients, owners, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and safe project completion; coordinate delivery of materials and equipment with field personnel and vendors.
• Prepare and review submittals, issue construction documents and layouts to field crews, respond to questions, and handle RFIs.
• Supervise basic to moderate project activities, interpret specifications and drawings for foremen and superintendents, and conduct inspections to support Quality Control (QC) on project sites.
• Work with Health and Safety professionals to evaluate safety performance as part of the procurement process for potential subcontractors and vendors.
• During project close-out, assist the Project Manager to complete all contract-required deliverables, finalize record drawings, close-out submittals, and coordinate final inspections and punch lists; ensure client satisfaction.
• As appropriate, coordinate with the VDC/BIM team to develop project capability needs and VDC plans.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline. 0 years of experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency depends on project duties and workload; 20% travel is typical for this role.
• Equivalent directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, good verbal and written communication skills, basic computation skills, and familiarity with technology used in engineering and construction projects. Proficient knowledge of construction terminology and ability to read/interpret construction documents and drawings. Intermediate PC skills.
