HNTB is looking for a Civil/Transportation Project Engineer in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin office. The ideal candidate is motivated and eager to deliver projects for local and/or national clients. The Milwaukee Civil/Transportation Department currently consists of 30 staff and is looking to sustainably grow to support our local and national clients. This team works on a variety of projects, from on‑site client visits to designing and managing mega reconstruction projects across the state, and also supports other offices nationwide on complex infrastructure projects.
This opportunity entails responsibility for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. You will consult with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery, applying engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. You will leverage technical knowledge and experience to address design‑related issues, work closely with the project manager and clients, and complete tasks to meet the project schedule.
You may mentor, train and review junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback, contributing to successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects.
- Plan and distribute discipline‑specific work, ensuring adherence to schedule and budget.
- Assist with marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
- Help develop scope of work and effort estimates for projects.
- Oversee completeness and accuracy of the team’s work within the discipline.
- Guide and mentor the team toward overall project objectives.
- Coordinate technical aspects of the project with client counterparts and partners at the staff level.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience.
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of the impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.
- Ability to coordinate work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.
- Preparation of high‑quality deliverables on time, within budget and scope.
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
