The Student Success Center (SSC), as a department of the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success, connects UW‑Milwaukee students to peers, faculty, staff, and resources throughout our campus community to support the personal and academic success of each student. We provide students with a variety of academic and support services to empower them to achieve and succeed. Our mission is fulfilled by providing Peer Mentoring, Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, Success Coaching, Academic Skill Development, and Bridge Programs.
Description
The Student Success Center (SSC) seeks energetic, empathetic, and self‑motivated individuals to serve and support coaching‑based programs in the center. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for aiding in the facilitation and evaluation of success coaching provided through the identified program. These holistic coaching programs consist of 1:1 coaching and mentoring services and academic skill building. Applicants for this position should be motivated to support undergraduate students through their unique and rigorous academic journeys.
The Graduate Intern(s) will also serve as contributing member(s) of the professional staff team in the Student Success Center.
- Conduct outreach to students and provide 1:1 support to undergraduate students utilizing the Student Success Center Coaching Model. Help build individualized plans that support a student’s unique needs and responsibilities.
- Assist in maintaining working relationships with both on‑and‑off‑campus program partners (Directors, Academic Advisors, Coordinators, & College Coaches of community‑based organizations as well as various high schools).
- Support recruitment efforts and provide up‑to‑date information regarding current and incoming student participants utilizing Slate and other CRM‑based programs along with other pertinent program updates, as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist in the maintenance of incoming student records and information while maintaining consistent contact over the summer in collaboration with summer melt efforts.
- Become familiar with and refer students to campus resources (e.g. Academic Advising, Tutoring/Supplemental Instruction, Student Health and Wellness Center, Accessibility Resource Center, etc.).
- Assess and report on results of success coaching initiatives through Navgate
360. - Promote innovative and best practice policies and procedures that result in improving the effectiveness of success coaching related to Student Success Center efforts.
- Attending meetings related to the Student Success Center.
- Working with campus partners and staff identified on a student’s Success team.
- Working with special projects as assigned by the Director of the Student Success Center.
- Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in graduate coursework in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field for the internship.
- Candidates must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be able to work 20 hours per week (including evening/weekend hours on occasion).
- Candidates should be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), Social Media Platforms, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
- Experience and/or interest in working with and supporting a student population primarily from the city of Milwaukee.
- Hourly rate up to $15.00/hour for up to 20 hours per week.
